Ahead of their Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 24 clash vs Sunshine Stars in Akure, coach Stanley Eguma has told his Rivers United players that there is still more work to be done if they are to meet their goal this season.
Rivers United beat Enyimba FC 2-0 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Monday, extending their NPFL unbeaten record to 12 games.
The victory, which came courtesy of goals from Ishaq Kayode and Chiamaka Madu, puts the Pride of Rivers four points ahead of Plateau United after matchday 23.
Since claiming first position, Eguma has been pleased with his team’s performance, but he also recognizes that any relaxation in their play might be detrimental.
“Like i will always say it is not yet over. The league is a marathon, you cannot say it is over now because we still have so many games to play. We have more than 15 games to play. So one cannot just begin to celebrate. We still have other tough opponents to play so for now we are still on course. I have very big hope in the team that we can achieve but we still need to work above our capacity because we are now target of every other team so you cannot relent.” – Eguma told RUFC media.
Rivers United will aim to keep their lead at the top of the NPFL table when they face Sunshine Stars at the Akure Township Stadium in Ondo state on Thursday.
