Southampton striker Paul Onuachu is on track for a quick return after a minor niggle sidelined him during the Saints’ recent clash with Liverpool.
Manager Russell Martin has expressed confidence in Onuachu’s recovery, emphasising his essential role in the team’s plans, Footballrover reports.
The Nigerian forward’s injury, though a concern at first, has turned out to be less severe than feared, raising hopes for his availability in the upcoming Premier League fixture against Brighton.
Martin has lauded Super Eagles star’s brilliant contributions since joining the squad, praising his ability to adapt and bring a fresh dimension to the team’s attack.
Martin’s confidence in Onuachu’s return after niggle injury
Despite the challenges of adjusting to the team’s tactical demands, the towering striker has displayed remarkable dedication to refining his game.
According to Martin, Onuachu’s commitment to improvement both on and off the pitch is commendable.
“Paul’s being assessed, so fingers crossed Paul will come through alright. It’s not a bad injury at all, which is really good news for us; just a niggle, so hopefully we can manage that and he can be involved.
“Paul did brilliantly, and he seems to be fine, recovering quite nicely. We had it scanned straight away because it was a bit of a worry.
“He had a brilliant impact because he brings something completely different. He’s had to work so hard to get used to what we want from him.
“He’s been desperate to play, so I’m pleased for him, but now we need to try and get him on the pitch tomorrow if we can, and if not, as soon as we possibly can,” Martin said in a press conference.
The Southampton manager also acknowledged the importance of carefully managing Paul Onuachu’s fitness to prevent further setbacks.
With the team eager to bounce back from their narrow loss to Liverpool, Martin is optimistic about having Paul ready to bolster their lineup against the Seagulls this weekend.
The setback occurred during Southampton’s intense 3-2 loss to the Reds, where Onuachu impressed before being forced off the field in the 52nd minute.
With six league appearances under his belt this season, Paul Onuachu will be hoping to find a spot for himself in the Saints’ setup.
