Al Akhdood, despite pressing for an equaliser, struggled to break down the opposition until the 62nd minute, when Saviour Godwin delivered a well-taken goal to level the score.
Al Akhdood’s hopes of salvaging a point were dashed in the dying seconds of the match.
In the fifth minute of added time, Bassem Al-Arini netted the winner for Al Kholood, securing a 2-1 victory for Troost-Ekong’s side.
It was a cruel blow for Godwin and his teammates, who had fought hard to recover after falling behind.
This loss marks another setback in a difficult season for Al Akhdood, who have struggled to find consistency.
With only one win in their last seven matches, they remain in 15th place in the 18-team Saudi Pro League, with just nine points from 12 games.
As they continue to battle for survival, the team will need to improve significantly to avoid relegation.
