In a move that has shocked the entire football world, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially stripped Senegal of their recent continental title, the African Cup of Nation (AFCON 2025)

Following a dramatic appeal process, the AFCON 2025 trophy has been reassigned to Morocco. This decision comes exactly two months after a chaotic final in Rabat that left fans and officials in disbelief, Footballrover reports.

Why CAF Overturned the AFCON 2025 Final Result

The controversy stems from the high-stakes final held on January 18, 2026. During the match, Morocco was awarded a late penalty, sparking a protest from the Senegalese squad.

Encouraged by their head coach, the Senegal players walked off the pitch in protest.

Although they eventually returned to finish the game—which they won 1-0 in extra time—the initial walk-off proved to be their downfall.

The CAF Appeal Board ruled that Senegal’s actions constituted a forfeit. Under Article 84 of the tournament regulations, the match is now recorded as a 3-0 victory for the Moroccan side.

Issues involving ball boys and the use of lasers by fans also resulted in reduced fines for the Moroccan football federation.

However, the core of the decision remains unchanged: Senegal’s conduct during the AFCON final led to an automatic forfeiture.
