Manchester United fans could soon witness a long-awaited return as former Chelsea star Mason Mount edges closer to full fitness.
With his last appearance dating back to December, the midfielder has endured a frustrating spell on the sidelines, Footballrover reports.
Now, as United prepares to face Leicester City, Rúben Amorim has openly praised Mount, sparking excitement over his potential comeback.
Rubem Amorim backs the former Chelsea star amid injury struggles
Mount has missed 20 consecutive games due to a hamstring injury, a setback that has tested his resilience.
Despite limited game time since his £55 million move to United, Amorim remains a firm believer in his talent.
The manager expressed admiration for Mount’s dedication, suggesting that his intense commitment to recovery may have contributed to his struggles.
“I really love Mason Mount,” Amorim stated. “He does everything right—his diet, his training, his physical preparation. Maybe he’s trying too hard, overthinking every step.”
The Portuguese tactician highlighted Mount’s past achievements, including his key role in Chelsea’s Champions League triumph, as proof of his quality.
He insisted that players like Mount are essential for United’s future success.
“I believe a lot in Mason Mount. We need players like Mount. He was a European champion. He’s a really talented player. And when the player does everything like he does, he will always have the support of everybody here in the club,” Rúben Amorim added.
Will Mason Mount feature against Leicester City?
While Amorim did not confirm Mount’s availability, he hinted at a possible cameo against Leicester City.
The coach revealed that he would love to see the midfielder get some minutes, even if it’s just five, to help him regain confidence.
“If he’s fit, he’ll be in the squad,” Amorim confirmed. “He may not be ready for long minutes, but even five minutes on the pitch would be valuable.”
United’s midfield has lacked creativity in recent games, making Mount’s return all the more crucial.
Whether he plays this weekend or not, Amorim’s faith in him signals a promising future at Old Trafford.
