The Rivers State Government today appointed a seven-member caretaker committee for the Rivers United Supporters Club.
The caretaker committee is headed by Amb. Otis Asonye, as Protem-Chairman, and Mr. Samuel Dappa, as Secretary.
Other members of the committee are Mr. Sunny Ogwu, Mr. Onyebuchi Odim, HRH Victor Nangibo, Mr. Collins Igwe, and Mr. Promise Kiri.
In a letter addressed to the Protem-Chairman, Amb. Otis Asonye, dated May 22, 2023, and signed by the Head of Administration, Rivers State Ministry of Sports, Ibiwari Wokoma, for the Honourable Commissioner of Sports, the Government said the appointment is a sequel to complaints from members of the club in respect of pre-election activities and a subsequent directive to the club to stay action on the 2023 election.
The Rivers government further directed the Protem-Chairman to take over the leadership and superintend over the affairs of the club forthwith and also directed the Committee to carry all interests along in the discharge of your duties.
In a separate letter addressed to the Chairman, Rivers United Supporters Club, and also dated May 22, 2023, the Honourable Commissioner of Sports, Rivers State, directed him to delay action on the forthcoming elections of Rivers United Supporters Club.
He said the directive is based on general complaints arising from pre-election activities.
He further directed the chairman to forward to the undersigned a list of all verified members and a copy of the constitution of the club within forty-eight hours of receipt of the letter.
