With a mix of promising youth and experienced recruits, head coach Tosan Blankson has sent a clear message: Rivers Angels are determined to hit the ground running, Footballrover reports.

New faces bring depth and excitement to Rivers Angels squad

The club introduced 15 new players. Two goalkeepers, four defenders, four midfielders, and five attackers.

Between the posts, Mgbechi Anderline joins the squad, while Bakare Shukurat arrives from Nasarawa Amazons to strengthen goalkeeping options.

Defensive reinforcements include Hussaini Christiana, Victoria Eyakndue, Azeez Anike, Ebiesuwa Abosede, Michael Joy, and newcomers Jumai Adebayo (Naija Ratels), Sharon Onwere (Heartland Queens), Ifeoma Ikenokwalu, Sandra John, Polinus Ifeoma, Aline Capehart (Liberia), and Kenneth Catherine. These additions provide Blankson with both versatility and depth, crucial for a challenging Group A campaign.

The midfield has been strengthened with Patience Otubo, Edward Tejiri, Popoola Mary, Nana Yusuf-Fridaos, Zainab Oduga, Rasheeda Salau (Ekiti Queens), Oluchi Okwara (Heartland Queens), and Arut Itu-Usang (Bayelsa Queens). Their creativity and defensive solidity will be vital in linking play and maintaining balance.

Up front, Rivers Angels have options aplenty. Ramotalahi Kareem, Chisom Nwachukwu, Taiwo Ajibade, Onweagba Ijeoma (Ibom Angels), Grace Saliu (Naija Ratels), Abasiofon Uwah (Ibom Angels), Ebere Nwafor (Naija Ratels), Peace Effiong, Favour Nwankwo, and Blessing Ifitezue make up a potent attacking contingent.

Ramotalahi Kareem, in particular, returns with momentum after finishing as top scorer at the WAFU B U-20 tournament in Côte d’Ivoire, including scoring the match-winner in the final.

Friendly victory signals readiness for NWFL 2025/26 season

Right after the unveiling, Rivers Angels put their new squad to the test in a preseason friendly against Osklean FA.

The team dominated throughout, routing their visitors 5-0, with goals flowing from both new recruits and existing stars, setting a confident tone ahead of the league’s resumption on November 26.

Rivers Angels’ first competitive fixture will see them travel to Castmong Ladies, with the team aiming to start the season on a strong note despite the departures of key players Taiwo Afolabi and Mary Moses.

Blankson will rely on his new recruits, particularly Ramotalahi Kareem, to provide firepower up front and sustain the club’s Super Six ambitions.

Eyes on the Super Six and beyond

Group A promises a competitive season with Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens, Adamawa Queens, Pacesetters Queens, Heartland Queens, Ekiti Queens, Naija Ratels, Ibom Angels, and Castmog Ladies. Rivers Angels, however, are determined to secure one of the six coveted Super Six spots.

Last season, the finalists included Edo Queens, Remo Stars, Nasarawa Amazons, Bayelsa Queens, Rivers Angels, and Naija Ratels — and Blankson’s squad is keen to improve on that.

If their preseason form is anything to go by, the team looks ready to make a strong statement this season.
