Rivers Angels’ forward, Blessing Kasarachi Okpe, has shared her delight following her team’s 2-0 victory against Remo Stars Ladies in a Nigeria Women’s Football League showdown in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
The match, held at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, marked the Rivers Angels’ resurgence after a recent draw, securing a crucial win in the ninth matchday fixture of the NWFL, Footballrover reports.
Okpe, alongside Olamide Adugbe, propelled the Jewels of Rivers to victory with her goal in the 32nd minute, capitalising on a free-kick earned from a foul, while Adugbe sealed the deal with a spectacular finish from Kehinde Deborah’s delivery.

Reflecting on the game, Okpe, the stand-in captain, expressed her joy at scoring the opening goal and leading her team to victory, especially after their previous draw against FC Robo.
“I feel so great and so happy to lead the team and score the first goal against our opponents. After the 1-1 in Ikenne, we came back home and gave ourselves the target of beating them here in Port Harcourt,” she said.
Okpe highlighted the team’s concern about potentially losing consecutive home games, emphasising the importance of home advantage in their strategy.
She acknowledged the team’s resilience in securing the win, particularly after their previous home draw against Robo.

Looking ahead, the 20-year-old forward outlined the team’s ambition to qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League, emphasising their commitment to work hard.
“Our goal this season is to secure a spot in the CAF Women’s Champions League, and we’re dedicated to putting in the effort required,” Okpe said.
Next on the agenda for Blessing Okpe and her teammates is a challenging away fixture against the Edo Queens in Benin on February 28th.
