When the pressure is highest, the Super Falcons shine brightest. That’s the message from captain Rasheedat Ajibade following Nigeria’s dramatic 2-1 victory over Banyana Banyana in the semi-final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

With a spot in the final now secured, Ajibade revealed what truly brings out the best in the Super Falcons, Footballrover reports.
Rasheedat Ajibade: “When We Face Challenges, That’s When You See the Best
The thrilling semi-final at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca saw the Super Falcons edge past Banyana in a hard-fought contest on Tuesday.
Ajibade set the tone with a composed penalty late in the first half, marking her first goal of the 2024 WAFCON.
South Africa equalised on the hour mark through Linda Motlhalo, who converted from the spot after Osinachi Ohale was penalised for a foul on Hildah Magaia.

But right-back Michelle Alozie came to the rescue with a stunning long-range strike that sealed a famous win.
Reflecting on the battle against Banyana Banyana, Ajibade said:
— “We know it was going to be a difficult game because every game in this tournament has been tough. We know South Africa quite well; they are a very good side.”
Having faced South Africa in other major fixtures like the Olympic qualifiers and previous WAFCON editions, Ajibade said the team was mentally and physically prepared.
She went on to reveal the only time the Nigerian females usually show off their true power as African giants.
— “When we face challenges, that is when you see the best of Super Falcons. It was difficult, but we managed to get the win.”
Woman of the Match Again as Falcons March On
The 25-year-old Rasheedat Ajibade was named Woman of the Match for the third time in this tournament—proving once again why she is one of Africa’s most important players.

The Atletico Madrid forward now has one goal and two assists at the 2024 WAFCON and continues to lead from the front.
Her efforts were key in pushing the Falcons past their bitter rivals, South Africa, and into the final.
The nine-time African champions will now face hosts Morocco in Saturday’s grand finale at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, with hopes of completing Mission X.
The Atlas Lionesses sealed their spot in the final by defeating Ghana’s Black Queens 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
