The Super Falcons of Nigeria have sealed a dramatic place in the WAFCON 2024 final after edging past Banyana Banyana of South Africa in a tense showdown.

With high stakes and plenty of emotion, Nigeria proved once again they can handle the pressure when it matters most, Footballrover reports.
Super Falcons Take Early Advantage Through Ajibade
The Falcons came into this high-profile semi-final full of confidence after demolishing Zambia 5-0 in the quarterfinal.
But against defending champions Banyana Banyana, it was a whole new ball game.

South Africa came out strong and caged the Falcons in the opening stages. It wasn’t until the 44th minute that captain Rasheedat Ajibade broke the deadlock with her signature calmness from the penalty spot.
The forward, who has now scored three times against Banyana, slotted the ball perfectly to give Nigeria a slim 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Late Michelle Alozie Stunner Sends Super Falcons to the Final
South Africa responded early in the second half. Just 13 minutes after the break, Osinachi Ohale was adjudged to have pulled back Dhlamini in the box.
The referee pointed to the spot, and Linda Motlhalo calmly converted the penalty to make it 1-1 at the Zaouli Stadium.
But the Falcons weren’t done. Deep into stoppage time, Michelle Alozie launched a long ball forward that somehow found its way into the back of the net—sealing a thrilling 2-1 victory for Nigeria.

With this clutch win, the Super Falcons dethroned the reigning WAFCON champions and booked their place in the final. The mission to reclaim African glory remains alive!
Nigeria Does It Again—This Time at WAFCON
Just last year in 2024, the Super Eagles defeated South Africa to reach the AFCON final. Now in 2025, the Super Falcons have followed suit by knocking out Banyana Banyana in WAFCON.
Whether it’s the men or the women, Nigeria always seems to find a way at the business end of major tournaments.
