Henry Onyekuru is back in the Turkish Super Lig—this time wearing the red and black of Gençlerbirliği.

The 28-year-old Nigerian winger has signed a two-year contract with the newly promoted side, marking a fresh chapter in his football journey, Footballrover reports.
With years of experience and a proven track record, Onyekuru brings star power and experience to Gençlerbirliği, and fans are excited to see what he delivers this season.
Why Henry Onyekuru Chose Gençlerbirliği: “My Friend Convinced Me”

In his first words as a Gençlerbirliği player, Onyekuru said:
“I feel good to be here. I can’t wait to start to play and help the team anyway, inside and outside the pitch, and hopefully we come out with a great victory in the season.”
The winger revealed that staying in Istanbul was his first option, but a friend changed his mind:
“My friend spoke to me about the club and everything going on. First, I wanted to stay in Istanbul, but he convinced me about the project and how they play, and also, Ankara is a nice city. I’ve never lived here before; I always come and go. I’m happy to be here and can’t wait to give my 100%.”

The move is seen as a strategic step for both Gençlerbirliği and Onyekuru, especially as the club prepares for life in the Turkish top flight after earning promotion last season.
A Career Full of Experience Across Europe and Asia
Born in Nigeria, Henry Onyekuru began his career at the renowned ASPIRE Academy in Qatar.
He later played for clubs like Eupen, Everton, Anderlecht, Galatasaray, Monaco, Olympiakos, Adana Demirspor, and most recently, Al-Fayha in Saudi Arabia.
He is no stranger to Turkish football fans. During his time at Galatasaray, he won both the Turkish Super Lig and the Turkish Cup in the 2018/19 season.

Now, he aims to bring that winning mentality to the Turkish side as they battle for success in the Super Lig.
The club officially welcomed him, stating:
“We wish him success under the red and black jersey.”
Onyekuru also had a message for the fans:
“I hope with your support, it will get us to the top.”
