Raphael Onyedika stole the spotlight on Wednesday night with a performance that will be remembered for a long time.
The Nigerian midfielder delivered a brilliant assist as Club Brugge crushed Rangers 6-0 in their UEFA Champions League play-off clash, sealing a commanding 9-1 aggregate victory, Footballrover reports.
Raphael Onyedika Inspires Club Brugge with Key Assist
Onyedika’s display not only marked his first goal contribution of the season but also proved vital in securing Brugge’s spot in the group stage.
The 24-year-old Super Eagles star set up the fourth goal of the game, showing his vision and precision in midfield.
That moment capped off a dominant first-half display from the Belgian side, who completely outclassed their Scottish visitors at the Jan Breydel Stadion.
While Onyedika made headline, his compatriot Cyriel Dessers endured a difficult night as he couldn’t even make any impact for the Gers in what turned out to be one of the club’s darkest European outings in recent memory.
Rangers Collapse as Brugge Run Riot
The Scottish side entered the match with faint hopes after a 3-1 loss in the first leg, but those dreams were shattered within minutes.
Nicolo Tresoldi opened the scoring, and things went from bad to worse when Max Aarons was sent off early.
From there, Brugge poured on the pressure. Captain Hans Vanaken doubled the lead before goals from Seys and Stanković made it 5-0 at halftime.
The second half brought more misery for the Gers, as Christos Tzolis sealed the rout with the sixth goal.
It was a night to forget for Russell Martin’s men, who suffered one of the most humiliating defeats in the club’s modern history.
Their only consolation is a Europa League berth, but even that offers little comfort with an Old Firm derby against Celtic looming on Sunday.
Celtic also crashed out of Champions League.
