Super Eagles star Cyriel Dessers continued his sensational run in the Scottish Premiership, scoring yet again to help Rangers secure a 2-2 draw at St Mirren.
The match, held at the SMISA Stadium on Saturday afternoon, saw Dessers net the opening goal of the contest, but it wasn’t enough to keep Rangers’ title hopes alive, Footballrover reports.
Despite his brilliant performance, Rangers’ poor form continued, as the team has now gone five games without a win.
Cyriel Dessers strikes again, hand Rangers first-half lead
Cyriel Dessers was once again in the spotlight for Rangers, providing the opening goal of the match.
After chasing the ball for over 42 minutes, Rangers found their breakthrough when Dessers, assisted by Nicolas Raskin, fired home to put the visitors ahead.
This strike marked Dessers’ 13th league goal, further boosting his impressive tally of 24 goals and six assists across all competitions this season.
Rangers fight back, but title hopes fade
Just two minutes after Dessers gave Rangers the lead, St Mirren equalised through Mark O’Hara.
Rangers responded quickly after the break with a goal from Nicolas Raskin, but the hosts were determined not to go down easily.
In the 73rd minute, Conor McMenamin struck to ensure the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
Despite the effort, Rangers’ recent struggles continued. With no wins in their last five outings, they now sit 23 points behind Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
With only four games remaining, the prospect of winning the league seems increasingly unlikely for the Nigerian international and his teammates.
Although Rangers’ title hopes have all but faded, they now shift their attention to their next fixture—an upcoming clash against Celtic.
With their league ambitions virtually extinguished, Rangers will hope to salvage their pride in this high-stakes encounter.
