Chelsea’s manager, Mauricio Pochettino, highlighted a significant area for growth in the performance of star player Christopher Nkunku, despite his notable contributions during Chelsea’s recent 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace.
In the match, Mykhailo Mudryk struck first for the Blues, followed by Noni Madueke’s 89th-minute penalty, securing a crucial win at home against Palace.
Nkunku played an important role as an advanced midfielder, displaying his ability to connect plays effectively for Chelsea, Footballrover reports.
However, Pochettino emphasised that there’s still untapped potential in the 26-year-old Frenchman.
“The problem is that Christopher Nkunku is still far away from his best. He is a very intelligent player. He can connect us. We missed this kind of playmaker,” Pochettino told Amazon Prime.
Pochettino acknowledged Nkunku’s offensive strengths, highlighting his adeptness at exploiting spaces between defensive lines, but he desires more from the talented midfielder.
The Blues boss is eager to witness Nkunku’s evolution, aiming to harness his full potential to further enhance Chelsea’s attacking prowess.
The West London side will now be looking to trade tackles with Luton Town next Saturday afternoon in what will obviously be their last campaign of 2023.
Pochettino and his boys will be looking to build on the momentum, but they will be facing a side that has suddenly picked up form as well.
