Man City’s head coach Pep Guardiola strongly believes that his team’s 3-1 comeback victory against Everton in a crucial match “proves again how special his players are.”
The victory, following their recent Club World Cup success, showcases their resilience and sends a clear message to rivals not to underestimate them, Footballrover reports
Returning from Saudi Arabia, City aimed to reverse a patchy Premier League run, having won just once in six games, causing them to lag in the title race.
However, favourable outcomes in their absence meant that winning their two postponed matches could narrow the gap with Liverpool to just two points.
In the thrilling encounter against Everton, City bounced back from conceding an early goal by Jack Harrison, securing the win through goals from Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez (via penalty), and Bernardo Silva.

Guardiola lauded his team’s mentality, emphasising their determination to reclaim the top spot despite their recent challenges.
“We were really pleased with how we reacted, and it proved again how special this group of players is and the mentality that we have in our bones,” he said.
He acknowledged the unpredictability of the league, highlighting the potential for surprises from teams across all standings.
Reflecting on the Club World Cup experience, Guardiola noted how it not only served as a break but also rekindled the players’ focus on their domestic campaign.

He shared his admiration for the team’s commitment, citing conversations overheard on the plane back, revealing their eagerness to tackle Everton upon their return.
“I remember on the plane coming back from Saudi Arabia, I listened to the players when they didn’t know I was listening, and they started to talk about Everton. I said, ‘Wow, this is my team’. I have the feeling they still want to try,” he noted.
Despite their recent criticism, Guardiola highlighted City’s strong form, having lost just one of their last 13 games (excluding the Club World Cup).
However, concerns loomed over John Stones, who left the stadium in a protective boot due to an ankle injury, further adding to City’s injury woes this season.

Guardiola expressed hope for the swift recovery of key players, Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne.
Haaland, recovering from a foot issue, is progressing in solo training, while De Bruyne aims for a return after a lengthy absence due to a hamstring injury.
Guardiola remains optimistic about City’s prospects despite challenges, emphasising their determination to excel in the league, backed by the imminent return of these crucial players from injury.
