Bitter Taste for Philippines as Switzerland Nets Twice in Women's World Cup Clash

The Swiss thus became the first women’s team in the ongoing football championship to hit the back of the net twice against their opponent.

Ramona Bachman scored the first goal for Switzerland through a spot kick in the 45th minute of the first half of the match.

Switzerland midfielder Coumba Cow was caught by a stray boot from Philippines defender Jessika Cowart in the eighteen-yard box.

The centre referee, Vincentia Enyonam Amedome, awarded a penalty in favour of Switzerland after a routine VAR review.

Bachman coolly slotted the ball past Philippines goalkeeper Olivia McDaniel for the Inka Grings team’s first goal of the match.

Seraina Piubel increased the tally to 2-0 in the 64th minute of the second half to give Switzerland the lead in Group A with a maximum of three points.

Co-hosts New Zealand is closely following Switzerland with three points after the hard-earned opening game lone goal victory against Norway.

In Group C, bookmakers favourites Spain scored three goals in six (6) minutes to beat Costa Rica 3-0 at WestPac Stadium, Wellington, New Zealand.

Valeria del Campo, Aitana Bonmati, and Esther Gonzalez, respectively, scored in the 21st, 23rd, and 27th minutes of the first half of the match to hand the Spaniards the maximum three points of the Group.

Spain now leads Group C with 3 points, leaving group opponents Japan, Costa Rica, and the African representative, Zambia, with no points.
