Philip Azango put out a man of the match performance on Saturday, scoring his second league goal of the season, helping Spartak Trnava secure a vital 2-0 victory over Skalica on Matchday 16 of the Slovakia Nike Liga.

The Nigerian forward’s decisive strike played a key role in lifting his team after a disappointing 3-1 defeat to league leaders Zilina, Footballrover reports.

Spartak Trnava were determined to bounce back, and Azango delivered, earning a well-deserved win in front of their home crowd at the City Arena Trnava.

Spartak Trnava dominated possession with 52%, creating 19 goal attempts and landing 9 shots on target.

At the other end, Skalica struggled to make an impact, with only 48% possession and just two shots on goal from their nine attempts.

Azango’s moment of brilliance came 12 minutes after Ghanaian midfielder Kelvin Ofori had opened the scoring for the hosts.

Ofori’s goal in the 25th minute paved the way, and Azango doubled the advantage shortly after, receiving a precise assist from Erik Daniel.

The victory marked the 27-year-old’s second goal in 12 league appearances this season, adding to his impressive tally of one assist in the Slovak Super Liga.

His first league goal came in Spartak Trnava’s 3-1 win over Michalovce. Azango also netted a goal in the Slovak Cup round of 16, helping his team secure a 2-1 victory over Podbrezova.

This victory extends Spartak’s strong form, now boasting six wins and only one loss in their last seven competitive outings.

Thanks to this crucial win, Spartak Trnava climbs to third place on the 12-team table with 30 points, just seven behind the league leaders Zilina.

With three points secured, Azango and his teammates will now set their sights on their next challenge against Ruzomberok at the Štadión pod Čebraťom.
