Southampton’s struggles at home continued as they suffered their seventh consecutive Premier League defeat, falling 3-1 to Bournemouth at St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday.
Despite Paul Onuachu providing an assist, the Saints were overwhelmed by a dominant Cherries side that extended their unbeaten away run to seven matches, footballrover reports.
Paul Onuachu assists, but Southampton’s woes deepen
The match started with high hopes for Southampton, but Bournemouth quickly shattered them.
The visitors capitalised on their first spell of pressure in the 14th minute when Ryan Christie’s brilliant angled pass set up Dango Ouattara to head home.
Just two minutes later, Christie struck again, this time curling a left-footed shot past Aaron Ramsdale after Southampton’s defence failed to react in time.
Paul Onuachu, determined to make an impact, played a key role in Southampton’s only goal.
With just under 20 minutes remaining, he set up Kamaldeen Sulemana, who rifled a shot through the goalmouth to give the Saints a glimmer of hope.
However, Bournemouth sealed the win in the dying moments when Marcus Tavernier cut inside and smashed a powerful finish past Ramsdale, extinguishing any chance of a Southampton comeback.
Southampton’s 7th straight home defeat piles pressure on Jurić
While Paul Onuachu stood out, fellow Nigerian Joe Aribo worked tirelessly in midfield before being substituted in the 85th minute.
Another Nigerian, Lesley Ugochukwu, also featured in the second half but couldn’t change Southampton’s fortunes.
The Saints have now lost seven consecutive home games, their worst run in recent history.
Their hopes of securing back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time since February 2022 were crushed by Bournemouth’s clinical display.
With this win, Bournemouth completed their first-ever Premier League double over Southampton, boosting their European qualification chances.
Meanwhile, Ivan Jurić’s side faces mounting pressure as their nightmare season shows no signs of ending.
