After the departure of Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi to Nottingham Forest last season, Bundesliga side Union Berlin has acquired another Nigerian to bolster their youth ranks.
The German side has officially signed Oluwaseun Bemudia from FC St. Pauli, who will join their U19 team for the upcoming season.
Bemudia, a trained central defender, previously played for the U17 team of FC St. Pauli.
Throughout his time with the Kiezkicker, he displayed exceptional skills and dedication on the field.
Bemudia was a regular starter in the team’s league matches, missing only one game, and even managed to score two goals during the season.
Impressed by his performances, the 16-year-old defensive talent was given the opportunity to train with the first team on multiple occasions.
This exposure to the senior squad has undoubtedly contributed to his development as a player.
Having both German and Nigerian citizenship, Oluwaseun Bemudia began his football journey at Walddörfer SV before joining FC St. Pauli’s youth academy in 2020.
His transition to Union Berlin marks a significant step forward in his promising career.
Janek Kampa, the head of Union Berlin’s youth academy, expressed his delight at securing the services of Bemudia.
He emphasized that the club sees great potential in the young defender and believes he will be a valuable addition to the U19 team.
Kampa highlighted the club’s commitment to nurturing Bemudia’s talent and providing him with the necessary support to progress to the highest level of the game in the years to come.
With Union Berlin’s reputation for developing young talents and providing a clear pathway to professional football, Bemudia has found an ideal environment to continue his growth.
The club’s youth development system has produced several notable players who have successfully transitioned to the senior team and even earned international recognition.
