Saviour Godwin kicked off the new year in style with an impressive opening goal for Al-Okhdood in their Saudi Pro League clash against Al-Nassr on Thursday evening.
The Nigerian forward displayed clinical precision, netting in the sixth minute with a well-placed right-footed shot from the centre of the box, footballrover reports.
The strike, which nestled in the top left corner, showed Godwinâs attacking prowess and provided Al-Okhdood a brief glimmer of hope against a formidable opponent.
However, the lead was short-lived as Al-Nassr, bolstered by the talents of Sadio Mané and Cristiano Ronaldo, mounted a dominant comeback.
Mané and Ronaldo turn the tide
Sadio Mané restored parity for Al-Nassr in the 29th minute, converting a well-executed move that left the Al-Okhdood defence scrambling.
Just before halftime, Cristiano Ronaldo calmly dispatched a penalty to hand Al-Nassr a 2-1 advantage heading into the break.
As Al-Okhdood struggled to regain their footing, Mané struck again in the 88th minute, sealing a 3-1 victory for the hosts.
Despite their early promise, Al-Okhdood found it challenging to contain Al-Nassrâs attacking depth, with Godwin substituted late in the game for Mohammed Juhaif as the visitors sought fresh energy.
A strong season for Saviour Godwin amid challenges
Despite the defeat, Saviour Godwinâs individual performance remains a highlight of Al-Okhdoodâs season.
The 28-year-old forward has contributed four goals in 13 league matches, including three strikes and one assist.
A member of Nigeriaâs Super Eagles, Godwin made his national debut in 2022 and continues to showcase his potential at the club level.
Al-Okhdood will now shift focus to their next fixture against Al-Fayha, where Godwin will aim to extend his scoring run and help his team climb the league standings.
With ManĂ© and Ronaldo dominating headlines, Godwinâs efforts underline his growing influence in the Saudi Pro League, even amid stiff competition.
