The Port Harcourt team only needed a goal from Nyima Nwagua in the second half of the CAF Confederation’s Cup additional playoff round second leg match at the Benin Martyrs Stadium to defeat their Libyan opponent.

Ebube Duru, Kazie Enyinnaya, Paul Acquah, and Malachi Ohawume all scored during the first leg of the match at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium last Wednesday, giving the Pride of Rivers a sizable advantage going into the match.

Al Nasr, looking to avenge their 5-0 loss in Port Harcourt, immediately seized the lead in the 39th minute courtesy of a goal from Abdulsalam Al Fitouri.

After that goal, the hosts struggled to regain control of the game, and Nyima Nwagua of Rivers United tied the score in the 56th minute with a brilliant back heel into the goal.

The Rivers United forward couldn’t hold back his delight as he joyfully pulled his hand up to his chest to celebrate his goal using Cristiano Ronaldo’s new celebratory move.

The NPFL champions – Rivers United drew 1-1 with Al Nasr in Libya to advance 6-1 on aggregate, and they will now play in the prestigious group round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Rivers United will now be the only Nigerian club left in a continental club competition’s group stage. The Stanley Eguma team will participate in the confederation Cup group stage for the first time since 2017.

The group stage draw for the CAF Confederation Cup will take place in Cairo, Egypt, on November 16, 2022.
