Footballrover understands that Mohammed Alim, the Jigawa striker involved in the incident, has been suspended for the remainder of the current season and the entirety of the 2024–2025 season.

Following the Dutse display of shame on Saturday, in which the Jigawa Golden Stars frustrated Sporting Supreme of Abuja by a score of 2-1, the NNL made a number of decisions, with this one included.

During the match, Alim was caught on camera using his hands to score a goal, akin to a basketball move, which has since gone viral.

Despite the referee’s decision to allow the goal, the NNL has deemed this action to bring the game into disrepute.

This incident has prompted swift action from the NNL, including the suspension of the player and the referee, Zaharadeen Nasiru, who officiated the match.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has also expelled the Grade 1 referee from Katsina State football and barred him from officiating any future Nigerian football matches.

Such actions by the NNL and NFF demonstrate a commitment to upholding the integrity and fair play of Nigerian football, ensuring that such incidents do not tarnish the reputation of the Nigetian League even at lower levels.
