In a weekend packed with exciting football, several Nigerian players made significant contributions to their teams in various leagues around the world with Ejuke, Simon, Lookman all in action.
From Chidera Ejuke’s late-game changer for Sevilla to Ademola Lookman’s persistence for Atalanta, Nigerian stars were vital in their teams’ fortunes, Footballrover reports.
Chidera Ejuke plays key role in Sevilla’s draw
Chidera Ejuke was one of the standout performers as Sevilla battled to a 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao at the Estadio San Mamés.
The forward, who played the full 90 minutes, was instrumental in creating the equaliser late in the game.
His impressive stats included 72 touches, seven successful dribbles, and 36 accurate passes.
He also demonstrated his defensive capabilities with 11 ball recoveries and nine ground duels won.
On the other hand, Kelechi Iheanacho, also on Sevilla’s squad, struggled to make an impact, managing just 11 touches before being subbed off for Suso in the 59th minute.
Elsewhere in Spain, Chrisantus Uche helped Getafe end their winless streak by playing a vital role in their 2-0 victory over Deportivo Alaves, marking their first victory after five winless matches.
Moses Simon and Lookman put in work
Over in France, Moses Simon did his best to keep Nantes in the game during their 2-2 draw with Saint-Etienne.
Simon made his mark with three shots and three successful dribbles, while also contributing defensively with five ball recoveries.
Despite his best efforts, Nantes had to settle for a point at home.
Ademola Lookman was another Nigerian star who made headlines in Italy, where he played a crucial role in Atalanta’s 1-1 draw against Bologna.
Lookman was highly involved throughout the match, registering five shots and completing 39 passes.
His persistence was rewarded when Atalanta finally found their equaliser in stoppage time, ensuring they took home a valuable point from the encounter.
Boniface & others fall short despite contributions
Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella were both involved in Bayer Leverkusen’s thrilling 1-1 draw in the Bundesliga clash against Bayern Munich.
While Boniface played for 78 minutes and Tella saw action for just 12, both were unable to influence the final result as Bayern denied Leverkusen their fourth straight win.
