The Super Falcons’ superstar made headlines when she jubilantly removed her jersey after scoring the country’s third goal against Australia at the Brisbane Stadium on Thursday.
The celebratory move received mixed reactions, with some expressing dissatisfaction.
Oshoala, who plays as a forward for Barcelona Feminine, acknowledged the conversations surrounding her choice of celebration in a thoughtful Instagram post, stating,
“My dad is definitely not happy with my choice of celebration but then again, Life is a collection of moments.”
The comment section of her post lit up with support from various Nigerian celebrities, who extended their apologies to Oshoala’s dad.
Multiple award-winning singer, Peterpsquare, wrote, “Daddy no vex Abeg!” while popular dancer Poco Lee humorously suggested, “Oya tell daddy make e no vex dem don cancel the Goal.”

Meanwhile, Oshoala, in a gesture of cultural respect and understanding, has also extended her heartfelt apologies to the Muslim community for her shirtless celebration.
She pulled off her shirt in excitement during the match, and in response to the feedback from the Muslim community, she expressed her sincere regrets.
“I’m sorry for the way I celebrated my goal, I removed my shirt out of excitement, I promise not to do it again. next game I will wear-hijab from the beginning of the game to the end,” she said.
