Former NPFL star Morice Chukwu is seriously making waves in the Tanzanian Premier League, securing his second goal for Singida Fountain Gate FC.
The former Nigeria U-23 player, who committed to a two-year deal with the Tanzanian team, has proven to be an important addition since his move from the Nigerian Premier League this summer.
In a recent Ligi Kuu Bara match against Dodoma Jiji, the 28-year-old midfielder swiftly opened the scoring just six minutes into the game with his trademark powerful shot.
Chukwu took the opportunity as Dodoma Jiji’s goalkeeper attempted to clear a corner kick. His effort was initially blocked, but he was given another chance.
With no hesitation, he fired a screamer into the top corner, handing his team the lead, Footballrover reports
Shortly after, an own goal by Augustino Samson further boosted Singida Fountain Gate’s advantage, securing a 2-0 lead by halftime.
Although Morice Chukwu and his teammates couldn’t find the net again in the second half, Paul Peter Kasunda managed to score for the home team in the 63rd minute.
However, it was only a consolation as the final whistle confirmed Singida Fountain Gate FC’s 2-1 away victory.
Chukwu’s second goal for the team adds to his earlier strike back in August during their 4-1 win over JKU of Zanzibar in the CAF Confederation Cup’s first qualifying round.
With this win, Singida Fountain Gate FC climbs to fifth place on the league table, tying with their hosts at 15 points and trailing the league leaders, Young Africans, by 14 points.
Looking ahead, their next fixture will be a home game against Coastal Union, where former NPFL star Morice Chukwu aims to continue his impressive form.
