The French superstar not only admitted responsibility but also issued a subtle response to Federico Valverde’s comments, adding an unexpected twist to the fallout, footballrover reports.

Mbappé’s turbulent start to life at Real Madrid took another hit when he missed a penalty in the La Liga encounter, just a week after squandering a spot-kick in the Champions League clash against Liverpool.

His tame effort, following Antonio Rudiger’s foul, was comfortably saved by Julen Agirrezabala, leaving Madrid trailing after Alex Berenguer’s 53rd-minute strike.

Though Jude Bellingham equalised in the 78th minute, Real Madrid’s hope was short-lived as Valverde gifted the ball to Gorka Guruzeta, who slotted home the decisive goal.

The loss left Madrid four points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona, despite having a game in hand.

After the match, Valverde expressed regret, calling the defeat “a hard blow” and apologising to fans.

However, Mbappé countered by taking full ownership of the outcome, saying:

Bad result. A big mistake in a match where every detail counts. I take full responsibility for it. A difficult moment, but it’s the best time to change this situation and show WHO I AM,” Mbappé said.

Ancelotti defends Mbappé amid criticism

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti stood by the forward, acknowledging the striker’s disappointment but emphasising that missed penalties are part of the game.

He praised Kylian’s work ethic, reminding critics of the 10 goals he has already scored this season.

“He is sad about the penalty, yes… but it can happen. Sometimes you score the penalty, sometimes not. I’m not going to judge a performance by the penalty,” Ancelotti said.

Ancelotti also confirmed Kylian, Vinícius Júnior, and Jude Bellingham as the team’s designated penalty takers.
