A determined and ambitious Liverpool team earned a draw from Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in London for the opening match of the 2023/2024 English Premier League season.
In the 18th minute of the first half, Egyptian International Mohammed Salah outpaced Chelsea’s defenders, delivering a beautiful pass to Luis Dias who scored Liverpool’s opening goal.
Salah struck again in the 31st minute, elegantly maneuvering into Chelsea’s eighteen-yard box for what seemed like Liverpool’s second goal.
However, this goal was disallowed following a meticulous VAR review.
Just seven minutes later, Axel Disasi equalized the score to 1-1 with a well-executed goal, assisted by Ben Chilwell.

Ben Chilwell himself found the back of the net in the 40th minute for Chelsea, but once again, VAR intervened, leading to the goal being nullified.
The first half ended with the score tied at one goal each.
The second half remained fiercely competitive, with neither side managing to breach the other’s defense.
This match marked Chelsea’s inaugural official fixture under the management of Mauricio Pochettino.

The encounter was a great proof of concept for what Pochettino is trying to build.
Much improved Chelsea side on last season as the Blues were in the ascendancy throughout the second half.
