Liverpool Drill Sevilla as Kelechi Iheanacho's Journey Starts with a Four-One Foretaste of Defeat

Kelechi Iheanacho’s much-anticipated Sevilla debut took a turn for the worst when they faced Liverpool in their last preseason game as the Premier League side put on a clinical display to secure a resounding 4-1 victory on Sunday.Liverpool Drill Sevilla as Kelechi Iheanacho's Journey Starts with a Four-One Foretaste of Defeat

Making his first appearance in Sevilla colours, Iheanacho was expected to bring a spark to the Spanish side’s front line, Footballrover reports.

However, what awaited him was a ruthless Liverpool side that left them chasing shadows for the majority of the game at Anfield.

The Reds drilled four goals past a hapless Sevilla defence, leaving Iheanacho with a bitter “foretaste” of what could be a challenging journey ahead with his new club.

The Super Eagles forward got a rude awakening in his first outing for Sevilla, as the La Liga side were completely humiliated.

The 27-year-old, who swapped the King Power Stadium for the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán this summer, was thrown straight into the deep end by manager José Luis Mendilibar.

Unfortunately, Iheanacho and his Sevilla teammates were outclassed in the first half as Liverpool ran riot.

Diogo Jota opened the scoring before Luis Diaz bagged a brace to leave the Andalusians helpless.

The Nigerian striker was hooked at halftime, with fellow countryman Chidera Ejuke coming on to replace him.

Ejuke injected some much-needed life into Sevilla’s attack and managed to set up Gerard Fernandez for a consolation goal after a slick pass that left Trent Alexander-Arnold in his wake.

However, it was too little, too late as Liverpool’s youngster, Trey Nyoni, added a fourth to rub salt on Sevilla’s wounds.

The Spanish side will be looking to bounce back when they kick off their La Liga campaign against Las Palmas on Friday.
