Joy Omewa has just completed a truly wild season, culminating in her being crowned the Kvindeliga Player of the Season!
This Nigerian forward’s incredible hard work and dedication have finally paid off, earning her the highest individual honour in Danish women’s football, Footballrover reports.
It was a season for the record books, as Omewa didn’t just win; she dominated, displaying her skill, strength, goal-scoring prowess and leadership on the pitch.
Joy Omewa: Double trouble for opponents
The Kvindeliga’s own players cast their votes, and their choice was clear: Joy Omewa is the undisputed Player of the Season for 2024/2025.
This prestigious award, presented by Spillerforeningen and Hessel HIRE, came with an extra special bonus – a brand new Mercedes Benz!
But that’s not all; Omewa also secured the League’s Top Scorer title, making it a historic “double” in the Kvindeliga.
Her stunning performance wasn’t limited to individual accolades. She was a key part of the Fortuna Hjørring team that clinched both the Danish Champion title and the Cup Winner’s title, completing an incredible haul for the season.
Joy Omewa truly delivered, registering an astonishing 22 goals and four assists in just 23 appearances in the Denmark Elitedivisionen women’s league.
Kvindeliga player of the season: A team effort
Despite her individual brilliance, Omewa remained humble, acknowledging her teammates’ crucial role in her success.
“I just want to let you know that this wouldn’t have been possible without any of you,” she shared during the award presentation. “I’m so grateful to you guys and thank you for all the assists and the help this season. It’s all thanks to you guys.”
This season marks her third with Fortuna Hjørring, and it’s by far her most successful.
Since joining in 2022 from B93 W as a free agent, the former Confluence Queens star has amassed over 39 goals in 71 appearances.
While her first two seasons saw her score eight and six goals, respectively, Omewa truly broke all barriers in her third spell with the Danish side.
But her journey isn’t over yet; Omewa will play her final game tomorrow, hoping to add more goals to her tally as Fortuna Hjørring hosts Nordsjaelland Women at the Nord Energi Arena in the Championship Group’s Round 10.
She’s been on fire recently, scoring in her last two consecutive games, including the winning goal against Aarhus Women and a fantastic hat-trick in a 6-1 victory over Odense Q Women.
