Nigerian forward Jonathan Okoronkwo emerged as the hero for Sivasspor on Thursday evening, netting the decisive goal to inspire his side to a hard-earned away victory over Boluspor in the Turkish TFF 1. Lig.
The 22-year-old marksman, who played the full 90 minutes, scored the visitors’ second goal as they snatched a 2-1 win at the Bolu Atatürk Stadyumu, Footballrover reports
Early Dominance and Jonathan Okoronkwo’s Decisive Strike
This Round 34 clash saw Okoronkwo register his third goal of the campaign, bringing his total goal contributions to five (including two assists) in 17 appearances.
Sivasspor started the contest on the front foot and took an early lead just three minutes in. Daniel Avramovski opened the scoring with a stunning strike that rattled off the woodwork and into the net.
The visitors doubled their advantage 25 minutes later. Following Boluspor’s failure to clear a cross, the ball fell kindly to Okoronkwo, who calmly tapped home from close range.
Although Doğan Can Davas managed to pull one back for the hosts shortly after the half-hour mark, Sivasspor held firm to secure the three points.
Despite the victory, Sivasspor remains in 9th place with 50 points. Jonathan Okoronkwo and his teammates will now shift their focus to Monday’s fixture against Istanbulspor.
Ebuka Finds Form Amid Relegation Battle in Egypt
John Ebuka delivered a fine performance for Al Ittihad Alexandria in the Egyptian Premier League, netting a crucial goal in a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Ismailia Electricity.
The 29-year-old forward opened the scoring at the Ismailia Stadium, though the visitors were unable to protect their slim lead, eventually sharing the spoils with the hosts.
After a goalless first half, it took John Ebuka just two minutes after the restart to find the breakthrough. However, the celebration was short-lived; just 11 minutes later, Ali Sulieman restored parity for the hosts.
Ebuka, who was making his 18th appearance of the season, played 76 minutes before being replaced by Mabululu.
While he has only started seven games this term, the forward is finding his form at the right time, having scored twice in his last three outings.
Despite Ebuka’s individual form, Al Ittihad Alexandria remains in a precarious position. The team is currently on a four-match winless streak, consisting of one defeat followed by three consecutive draws.
Current Standing:
Position: 10th Place (Relegation Group)
Points: 23
Buffer: 4 points above the drop zone
The club will need to convert these draws into wins quickly to ensure they distance themselves from the looming threat of relegation.
