Former Sporting Lagos star Jonathan Alukwu has continued his impressive European journey, netting his seventh goal for ASKÖ Oedt in a thrilling home game on Wednesday evening.

Although Alukwu scored Oedt’s second goal in the heartbreaking 2-3 loss to Austria Vienna in the Austrian Cup, his efforts weren’t enough to secure a win for his team, Footballrover reports.

The 21-year-old forward, who made the move to Europe in June after leaving Sporting Lagos, has been a consistent performer for Oedt, having now featured in seven games across all competitions.

ASKÖ Oedt entered the match seeking to recover from a narrow 1-0 defeat against SPG Wels, but their hopes were dashed by a late penalty.

Hosted at the Transdanubia Stadion, Oedt started strong with Nenad Vidackovic scoring just two minutes into the game.

However, Austria Vienna responded quickly, with Nik Prelec equalising seven minutes later and Muharem Huskovic adding a second just 12 minutes in.

Alukwu, who was introduced 15 minutes into the second half, replaced Brazilian forward Valdir to boost the Oedt attack.

His presence proved crucial as he scored 20 minutes later, levelling the score and giving Oedt a glimmer of hope.

However, with only two minutes remaining before stoppage time, Oedt conceded a penalty.

Manfred Fischer coolly converted from the spot, sealing a 3-2 victory for Austria Vienna and sending Oedt crashing out of the Cup.

“I dedicate my goal to Coach Obi. He was more like a father to me and encouraged me to be where I am today. I spoke to the family and was happy they are getting stronger as the days comes by. He will be missed,” Alukwu was quoted saying after the game.

Alukwu and his new teammates have won only two of their last five matches, with three painful defeats haunting them.

As they prepare to face Treibach in an Austria Regional Liga Central match on Sunday, they’ll be eager to return to winning ways and turn their fortunes around.
