In an effort to overcome their poor start in the NPFL season, Akwa United defender, Wisdom Ndon, has revealed that the team is working diligently to turn their fortunes around.
Ndon made this statement following their recent matchday two encounter, which ended in a goalless draw against Sporting Lagos, a newly promoted NPFL side, Footballrover reports
The match took place at the renowned Godswill Akpabio Stadium and was of great significance to the Fatai Osho side as they aimed to secure their first home victory of the season, but they fell short of their goal.
As the clock ticked down during the 90 minutes of play, Wisdom Ndon and his teammates watched their eagerly anticipated first win of the season slip through their fingers.
The visiting Sporting Lagos team thwarted all their efforts, leading to a disappointing 0-0 draw.
This disappointment followed their initial game loss, a 5-3 defeat against Bayelsa United on their opening fixture of the campaign.
Despite the challenging start to the season, Wisdom Ndon expressed his disappointment but remains optimistic about the team’s ability to turn things around.
“I personally understand the frustration of our supporters, and we share their desire for a win. It’s disappointing not to secure the victory we aimed for against Sporting Lagos, but I want to assure everyone that we are working hard to turn things around,” he said.
The Center-back recognized the resilience of Sporting Lagos, describing them as a strong opponent.
“Sporting Lagos proved to be a tough nut to crack, but we had our chances, and we’ll keep working on converting them into goals,” he added.
He also called on the fans to be patient and understanding, vowing that the Akwa United team will continue giving their best on the pitch.
“It’s a long season, and we believe that a win will come soon. We need the fans’ support more than ever, and we promise to keep giving our best on the pitch. Stay patient, and better days are ahead for Akwa United,” Ndon emphasized.
The defender, however, highlighted the team’s improved momentum, acknowledging the difficulty of the recent game.
“We did really well. We fought. We respected the gameplan. The gameplan worked very well – what was missing was just a goal,” he concluded.
Looking ahead, The Promise Keepers will be visiting the defending champions Enyimba in Aba, hoping to make it count this time around.
It will surely not be an easy ride for the Uyo Boys, as the Peoples’ Elephant are also without a win and will be hoping to pick up their first three point at the multi-purpose stadium in Aba
