Super Falcons star Gift Monday has celebrated a remarkable start to 2025, following her stellar performance that saw her score a crucial brace to propel UD Tenerife to a resounding 5-1 comeback victory over Deportivo La Coruña in Liga F Round 14.
Her powerful performance not only brought personal glory but also reignited Tenerife’s season, ending a five-match winless streak, Footballrover reports.
UD Tenerife, amidst a challenging season, found their breakthrough in a spectacular turnaround fuelled by Gift Monday and Rinsola Babajide.
Gift Monday’s brace powers Tenerife to victory
UD Tenerife had been struggling for form, and a first-half deficit of 1-0 left them facing a daunting challenge.
However, the second half was all about Gift Monday. The 23-year-old Nigerian forward equalised in the 52nd minute with a header from Aleksandra Zaremba’s cross, before adding another goal just 12 minutes later with a composed finish to give Tenerife a 2-1 lead.
Monday’s influence didn’t stop there. She provided an assist for Zaremba’s goal in the 76th minute, helping to extend the lead.
The brace increased her season tally to eight goals, surpassing her six-goal total from last season.
Tenerife’s victory marks a turning point
Alongside Monday, Rinsola Babajide also contributed to the second-half surge, scoring one goal and assisting on another.
The Super Falcons duo’s performances were key to the 5-1 scoreline, marking Tenerife’s first win in five games.
Babajide’s sharp finishing and Monday’s commanding presence made them an unstoppable pair.
And right after the game, Gift Monday, who couldn’t contain her excitement, took to her social media page to share her joy.
“Starting 2025 with a bang. Two goals in the first match of the year. Grateful for the teamwork and support—let’s keep the momentum going,” she wrote.
With her momentum now high, the Super Falcons star will be hoping to lead the charge once again when UD Tenerife battles Granada this weekend.
