UD Tenerife finally broke their winless streak in spectacular fashion, thanks to an excellent second half performance from Super Falcons stars Gift Monday and Rinsola Babajide.
Monday’s brilliant brace and Babajide’s clinical finishing powered Tenerife to a stunning 5-1 comeback victory over Deportivo La Coruña in their Liga F Round 14 clash, footballrover reports.
This much-needed win ends Tenerife’s run of three defeats and a draw, reigniting their season in dramatic style.
Gift Monday brace sparks Tenerife’s dominant second-half comeback
Entering the match on the back of poor form, UD Tenerife struggled early and trailed 1-0 at halftime after Henar Muiña put Deportivo ahead in the 25th minute.
However, the second half belonged to Gift Monday. The 23-year-old Nigerian forward levelled the game in the 52nd minute with a powerful header from Aleksandra Zaremba’s cross.
Just 12 minutes later, Monday struck again, displaying her composure with a precise finish to give Tenerife the lead.
Monday’s influence didn’t stop there. In the 76th minute, she turned provider, setting up Zaremba for Tenerife’s fourth goal.
This standout performance not only earned her the player of the match award but also increased her season tally to six Liga F goals and two assists in 12 appearances.
Including her two goals in the Copa de la Reina, Monday now boasts eight goals this season—already surpassing her six-goal total from last season.
Rinsola Babajide completes the rout with brilliant display
Rinsola Babajide was equally instrumental in Tenerife’s dominant second-half display.
The 26-year-old forward added the third goal in the 69th minute, calmly finishing off a well-placed pass from Clau Blanco.
Babajide helped seal the victory in the 81st minute when she also turned provider for Zaremba, who doubled her tally to make it 5-1.
Babajide’s performance brings her season tally to five goals and two assists in 12 games for Tenerife.
Her sharp movement and clinical finishing perfectly complemented Gift Monday’s commanding presence, making the Super Falcons duo unstoppable on the day.
A season-defining victory for UD Tenerife
This five-star performance marks UD Tenerife’s first victory in 5 matches and could be a turning point in their Liga F campaign.
With the Super Falcons duo in red-hot form, Tenerife will aim to build on this momentum in their upcoming fixtures as Tenerife looks to climb higher in the Liga F standings.
