Former West Brom star Brown Ideye has made a bold claim about his future with Nigeria’s Super Eagles, revealing that he is ready to represent his country once again, despite an 8-year hiatus from international football.
The 36-year-old, who now plays for Enyimba in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), is determined to answer any call-up from the national team, footballrover reports.
A Super Eagles return in sight for Brown Ideye?
Ideye, speaking on Channels Television’s Sports Tonight, emphatically dismissed rumors of his retirement from international duty.
He expressed a clear commitment to the Super Eagles, stating, “I’ll jump on it” should he receive a national team call-up.
“For sure, because I’m not retired from international football yet. So why not? If I get called up to represent my country, I’m going to honour the invite, for sure,” he said.
The forward last appeared for Nigeria in October 2016, during a 2-1 victory over Zambia in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, and has not played for the Super Eagles since then.
Confidence restored at Enyimba: Could a Super Eagles recall be next?
Ideye’s recent performances for Enyimba have rekindled his belief in a potential Super Eagles recall.
The former Sochaux and Malaga striker, who was part of Nigeria’s victorious 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) squad, marked his return to domestic football with a goal in a dominant 4-1 win over Mozambique’s Black Bulls in the CAF Confederation Cup.
His 61st-minute goal against Nasarawa United clinched Enyimba’s first league victory in two months. The Super Eagles icon has now netted twice in as many games for the People’s Elephant.
With seven goals in 28 international appearances, Brown Ideye remains eager to make an impact once more for the Super Eagles.
