Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne was treated to a cracker of a contest as Finidi George’s Rivers United staged a dramatic comeback to hold Sky Blue Stars to a 1-1 draw in a Valuejet Cup thriller.
The Pride of Rivers, fresh off a 2-0 thumping of Ijebu United, were looking to continue their winning ways against a Remo Stars side who had shared the spoils with Kwara United in their opener, Footballrover reports.
The first half was a tight battle, with both teams cancelling each other out.
However, the deadlock was finally broken just before the break when Seth Mayi pounced on a delightful cross from Miracle Nwobodo to give the Ikenne Boys a deserved lead.

The second half was a different story altogether.
Rivers United came out all guns blazing, desperate to level the score.
Their persistence paid off when a howler from Remo Stars goalkeeper Obassa Adebiyi gifted Kabiru Abdullahi a golden opportunity, which the forward calmly converted with a simple effort.

The game opened up after the equaliser, with both teams creating chances.
Remo Stars’ Abah Joseph came close to restoring his side’s lead, but former Shooting Stars goalkeeper Bamidele Adeniyi was equal to the task.
The final whistle came down with the scores locked at 1-1, leaving both teams with mixed feelings.
Rivers United will be pleased with their resilience, while Remo Stars will be bitterly regretting their missed opportunities.
With this result, Rivers United remain top of Group B and are already confident of advancing to the knockout stages.
Remo Stars, on the other hand, will need to win their final group game against Ijebu United to keep their hopes alive.
What a game! The battle for supremacy between these two NPFL giants is far from over.
