Abakaliki FC may have fallen short in the final, but the Ebonyi State Governor, Rt Hon. Francis Nwifuru, has made sure they did not return home empty-handed.
Ebonyi governor praises Abakaliki FC after brave final fight
On Saturday, Abakaliki lost 4–3 on penalties to Kwara United in the 2025 President Federation Cup Final at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, Footballrover reports.

But less than 24 hours later, Ebonyi Governor opened his doors wide for the players and coaches at the Government House in Abakaliki.
The governor surprised everyone by rewarding Abakaliki players and coaches with ₦1 million each for their brave effort in the final.

Despite missing out on the trophy, the Ebonyi state governor made sure Abakaliki felt every bit like winners. His cash package includes:

₦1 million each for all players and coaches
Salaries paid until November for old players
₦500,000 each to non-technical staff
₦4 million to the Supporters Club
₦1 million to SWAN Ebonyi
Governor Nwifuru didn’t stop there. He promised that Abakaliki will return to the Nigeria National League (NNL) next season, keeping fans hopeful for a stronger push next time.
Abakaliki might have missed lifting the Cup, but with the Governor’s massive support, they are ready to come back even better.
