Depay to the rescue as Barcelona steals late win over 10-man Elche

Barcelona extended their unbeaten streak to 11 games with a 2-1 triumph over 10-man Elche at the Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero, thanks to a late Depay penalty.

Fidel gave the hosts the lead at halftime, but Torres’ entrance at the interval aided Barca much, as the winger had multiple opportunities to score before striking the leveller on the hour mark.Depay to the rescue as Barcelona steals late win over 10-man Elche

Following a VAR review, the referee gave the visitors a penalty after Barragan was found to have deliberately obstructed Depay’s cross with his arm, which Depay dispatched from the spot.

Pastore hasn’t even entered the field yet, and he was issued a straight red card for his anger in the 88th minute after appealing the decision not to award Elche a penalty, reducing the hosts to ten men.

Barcelona now sits in third place in LaLiga, two points clear of Real Betis in fourth.

Xavi’s side will now focus on their Europa League game, where they will facing Galatasary in midweek before coming back to LaLiga action against Osasuna at the weekend.

Elche, however, is still in 14th place, barely five points above the relegation zone, and will face Granada in their next match.
