Following a disappointing performance against Aberdeen, Rangers star Cyriel Dessers openly shared his feelings of frustration after their 2-1 defeat in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night.
The Super Eagles forward left the away fans wanting more as he had a golden opportunity early in the match to give his team the lead, but his attempt was thwarted by Devlin’s quick intervention, Footballrover reports.
The home side struck first, with Nicky Devlin finding the net in the 31st minute at a raucous Pittodrie Stadium, putting Aberdeen ahead.
Rangers managed to equalise in the second half, thanks to a stunning solo effort from Nedim Bajrami that left goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov helpless.
However, the hosts wouldn’t back down, and substitute Shayden Morris capitalised on a rebound to secure the victory for Aberdeen.
Now, both Aberdeen and Celtic sit nine points clear of Philippe Clement’s Rangers after just ten matches, intensifying the pressure on the manager following his side’s third league loss of the season.
Cyriel Dessers reflects on missed opportunities and narrow defeat
After the match, Dessers, who was substituted after 83 minutes for Hamza Igamane, expressed his disappointment and anger, calling the defeat frustrating.
He pointed out how control of the game shifted multiple times, noting that although they regained some dominance, they failed to capitalise on a few promising chances.
Dessers acknowledged the pain of missing those opportunities, especially when the opposing team found the back of the net.
“Obviously, very disappointed and also angry. Thats frustrating. I think it was a game with a few periods in which the control shifted; they started very well, very dominant, but then we took the control again.
On the second half, we were playing in their half, pushing them back. But the creation of chances, we had a few small ones that were close; we could have done a little but better, but I think we missed on them and they scored; it’s painful,” Dessers told RangersTv
As the squad looks ahead, Cyriel Dessers and his teammates will need to regroup for their upcoming challenge against Dundee United, who also suffered a 2-0 loss to league leaders Celtic.
