Chuba Akpom has continued his remarkable form in the Eredivisie, securing a brace on Sunday afternoon to propel AFC Ajax to a commanding away league win against PEC Zwolle.
The Nigerian sensation demonstrated his prowess once again by netting goals in both halves, guiding Ajax to a resounding 3-1 victory at the MAC³PARK Stadion, Footballrover reports.
Ajax took an early lead in the game courtesy of Kristian Hlynsson’s strike just 12 minutes in, setting the tone for an impressive performance.
Before Akpom extended the lead with a clinical finish 12 minutes later, giving Ajax a comfortable 2-0 advantage at halftime.
Despite a late resurgence from the hosts, who managed to pull one back through Filip Krastev in the 72nd minute, Akpom swiftly responded by restoring Ajax’s two-goal cushion, sealing the win with his second goal of the match.
The 28-year-old displayed his endurance and precision throughout the game, featuring for over 86 minutes and registering three shots, two of which found the target.
With nine goals in 19 appearances for Ajax, Akpom continues to be a crucial figure in the team as they continue to fight on with their campaign.
This marks Akpom’s consecutive goal-scoring feat, following his previous strike against Sparta Rotterdam in a 2-2 draw at the Sparta Stadion.
Following the victory over PEC Zwolle, Chuba Akpom and his teammates have climbed to fifth place in the Eredivisie standings, amassing 44 points from 27 league fixtures.
They currently trail league leader PSV by 28 points and hold a comfortable 16-point advantage over their recent opponents.
Next up for Akpom and the Ajax team is a home fixture against Go Ahead Eagles at the iconic Johan Cruijff ArenA on Thursday, as they hope for yet another thrilling encounter in Eredivisie.
