18-year-old Nigerian forward Christian Nwachukwu was the hero of the day as he inspired Botev Plovdiv to a nail-biting victory over Hebar this past weekend after scoring the only goal of the game.
In a tightly contested encounter, Nwachukwu’s second half goal was all Botev Plovdiv needed to edge out Hebar, securing a narrow away win in their league clash, Footballrover reports.
On Sunday, during matchday six at Stadion Georgi Benkovski, Botev Plovdiv found themselves in a deadlock with Hebar as the first half ended without a breakthrough.
But just six minutes into the second half, Nwachukwu stepped up.
He capitalised on a perfect assist from Nikola Iliev, sending the ball into the back of the net to hand his team the lead.
This crucial goal helped seal Botev Plovdiv’s third win in their last five matches.
However, his contribution was cut short as he was substituted 16 minutes later, with fellow Nigerian Samuel Akere taking his place on the field.
The match also saw another Nigerian, Ehije Ukaki, enter the fray, replacing Aleksa Maras for the final 11 minutes.
Despite Botev Plovdiv’s dominance, with 16 goal attempts and four shots on target, they could only convert one of their chances.
This hard-fought victory propelled Botev Plovdiv to third place in the Bulgarian Parva Liga, with 10 points on the 16-team table.
Now, Nwachukwu and his teammates will have to prepare for their next challenge as they look to host Spartak Varna at Stadion Hristo Botev on Saturday.
