The CAF TotalEnergies Confederation’s Cup group B matchday 4 tie between Rivers United and DC Motema Pembe ended in favour of the Nigeria Premier Football League side, courtesy of hat-trick from Paul Acquah.
Paul Acquah found back of the net three times on Thursday afternoon to help Rivers United secure a 3-1 win over DC Motema Pembe at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
The match was originally scheduled for Wednesday but had to be postponed due to DC Motema Pembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo not showing up.
The match was then rescheduled for today after waiting for the Confederation of African Football, CAF, to make a decision, and the Pride of Rivers ended up playing a good host to their visitors.
Both teams came out strong in the opening minutes of the game, but it was the home team that eventually broke the deadlock when Paul Acquah combined superbly with Ukeme Williams to score just before halftime.
Ten minutes into the second half, the 27-year-old attacking midfielder doubled his tally of the game to give the Stanley Eguma team a 2-0 lead in Uyo. Emmanuel Ampiah assisted on the goal.
Kingu Yallet managed to pull one back for the visitors, but it wasn’t enough to rescue a point for his side as Paul Acquah grabbed his first hat-trick for the Port Harcourt team to secure the victory and all three points.
With the win, Rivers United moved to the top of Group B with nine points from four games, two points above ASEC Mimosas of Cote d’Ivoire, and seven points ahead of Motema Pembe, who are currently in last place.
Rivers United had earlier snatched a narrow 1-0 win over DC Motema Pembe on matchday three of the tournament.
