Rivers United head coach Finidi George has wasted no time in sending a clear message to their NPFL rivals after guiding his side to crush Lockdown FC in their opening preseason friendly match in Port Harcourt.
The newly appointed head coach’s reign got off to a flying start as his side dismantled Lockdown FC by a resounding 4-1 scoreline, Footballrover reports.
In his first unofficial match since taking over the reins at the Garden City club, Finidi’s team displayed ruthless efficiency that left the Eleme-based team (in Port Harcourt) reeling.
The victory, achieved in a closed-door encounter at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, showed a level of intensity that belied the friendly nature of the match.
Former Heartland star Austin Osayande opened the scoring for Rivers United in the 39th minute before Chibuzor Eze-Ogbodo doubled the lead just before halftime.
The second half saw more dominance from the hosts, with Stephen Manyo extending their advantage in the 53rd minute and Kabiru Abdullahi adding a fourth goal six minutes before stoppage time.
The coach Odinga Odinga side managed to grab a consolation goal, but it was too little, too late.
The last time Finidi enjoyed such a high-scoring match was when he was still at the helm of Enyimba.
The People’s Elephant recorded similar high-scoring victories against Gombe United and Kano Pillars during his time in charge.
Obviously, it’s a clear warning to their rivals that with Finidi George at the helm, the Pride of Rivers will be a major contender for the league title.
