The recent NPFL clash between Bendel Insurance vs. Kwara United at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium had fans witnessing an intense battle that finally ended in a 2-2 draw.
Bendel Insurance’s coach, Monday Odigie, shed light on the Vipers’ performance after the game, highlighting two crucial reasons behind their missed opportunity for a victory, Footballrover reports
Giving his first reason, Coach Monday Odigie explained that:
“It’s not the result we wanted, but football comes like that. For a team that’s having new players come in to join them, it takes time to gel and know how you want to play.”
The coach further acknowledged that a series of errors plagued both halves of the game, impacting their rhythm. Despite trailing at halftime, the team demonstrated relentless determination.
The match witnessed an eventful first half, with Kwara United initially taking the lead through an impressive goal from Sodiq Yusuf.
However, Bendel Insurance showed a fight-back spirit and swiftly equalised with a remarkable strike from Stephen Sodje.
The Harmony boys, undeterred, surged ahead once more, securing a 2-1 lead just before halftime courtesy of Godwin Oshagbemi’s goal.
In a thrilling turn of events, Ismael Sarki’s dramatic goal in the 95th minute salvaged a point for Bendel Insurance, leaving the match with a 2-2 draw.
The team bounced back twice to salvage a point at home.
Coach Monday Odigie remains optimistic, stating that,
“It’s a long league; we are mindful of the task, and we’ll keep trying to work towards our objectives.”
This draw will obviously serve as a learning curve for Bendel Insurance, highlighting areas to refine for upcoming fixtures in their pursuit of success in the league.
Meanwhile, the Benin Arsenal will continue their fight in the league with a visit to Aba, where they will trade tackles with the defending champion, Enyimba, in midweek.
