Bayelsa Queens has moved to the top of the 2024 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six standings after a commanding victory over Confluence Queens FC.
Bayelsa Queens dominated the match against Confluence Queens with a 2-0 win, Footballrover reports.
Zainab Olapade and Chinyere Igboamalu netted a goal each to secure the vital win for the host team.
This victory places Bayelsa Queens comfortably on top with seven points, following two wins and a draw in the Women’s Clubs Championship held today at Samson Siasia Stadium.
Zainab Olapade opened the scoring 23 minutes into the first half, giving the Prosperity Girls an early lead.
Chinyere Igboamalu’s late goal in the second half cemented the victory and ensured maximum points for her team.
The Prosperity Girls had a whopping 11 shots on target compared to the Confluence Queens’ single attempt.
They also controlled the game with 10 corners to their opponents’ 3, and their goalkeeper only needed to make 1 save all through the game against Confluence Queens’ 9.
The match was fairly even in terms of fouls, with Bayelsa committing 13 and Confluence 12.
Discipline-wise, Confluence Queens received 2 yellow cards, while Bayelsa remained card-free with no red cards issued during the match.
