Despite finding the back of the net, Asisat Oshoala couldn’t prevent Bay FC from suffering a crushing defeat in a 6-goal thriller against Gotham FC in their NWSL clash on Saturday night.
Oshoala’s equaliser briefly offered hope, but the Super Falcons star ultimately saw her side fall apart in 5-1 defeat, Footballrover reports.
Oshoala scored her seventh goal of the season, netting in back-to-back games and bringing her tally to four goals in the last five matches.
However, the 29-year-old Nigerian forward was left frustrated as Gotham FC surged ahead in the second half, leaving Bay FC without answers.
After conceding an early penalty converted by Jenna Nighswonger, Bay FC bounced back with Oshoala’s clinical finish nine minutes later, levelling the score at 1-1 heading into halftime.
Gotham’s second-half rampage
The second half, however, saw Gotham FC completely dominate. Rose Lavelle restored the hosts’ lead before Esther González added a quick double to extend the advantage.
Cecelia Kizer completed the rout just before stoppage time, making it a night to forget for Bay FC.
Despite the scoreline, Oshoala’s individual performance stood out.
She made eight touches inside the opponent’s box, completed 15 accurate passes, and contributed defensively with three tackles, two recoveries, and three ground duels won.
Unfortunately, her efforts weren’t enough to turn the tide for her team.
Bay FC’s struggles continue
This defeat marks Bay FC’s second loss in their last five outings, as they now sit eighth on the NWSL table with 28 points after 23 matches.

With only two wins and a draw in their recent games, Bay FC faces an uphill battle as they prepare to face Kansas City Current in their next encounter.
Oshoala’s personal form remains strong, but Bay FC’s collective struggles could jeopardise their push for a playoff spot as the season nears its conclusion.
