Nigerian midfielder Anthony Dennis took the shine when his team Göztepe faced Paul Onuachu’s Trabzonspor during their Turkish Süper Lig clash on Sunday evening.
Despite finding the back of the net, his effort was all in vain as Göztepe suffered a narrow 2–1 home defeat, Footballrover reports.
Anthony Dennis Goal Highlights Göztepe’s Fight
While Dennis got his name on the scoreboard, his compatriot Onuachu was completely silenced for the entire 90 minutes.
The 21-year-old midfielder did not just hit the net; he also completed the most dribbles (3) in the match.
That goal was his third of the season in 13 appearances. Now in his third season at Göztepe, the Nigerian has struggled for consistency in front of goal.
In his first campaign, he scored only two goals in 15 outings. He followed with just two assists in 37 games during his second season.
This year, however, he already has 3 goals in 13 matches, his best output so far.
His first two goals came back in August—one in a 3–0 win over Rizespor and another in a 1–1 draw with Konyaspor.
Since then, he has endured a three-month drought, which took him 11 games to finally find his scoring boots again.
Unfortunately for Göztepe, Dennis’ late strike didn’t change their fate as they gave away all three points to their visitors at the Gürsel Aksel Stadyumu.
Göztepe and Trabzonspor delivered a fiery Süper Lig clash filled with momentum swings and costly discipline lapses.
Trabzonspor rode Ernest Muci’s sharp finishing, as his brace put them firmly in control despite Göztepe’s energetic spells.
The match grew tense late on: Wagner Pina’s red card invited pressure, and Göztepe finally broke through when Dennis struck in stoppage time.
Any hopes of a full comeback faded when Rhaldney received a second yellow, leaving both sides a man down at the end of a dramatic contest. Trabzonspor held on to seal a gritty 2–1 win.
Tochukwu Nnadi Assist Inspires Zulte Waregem
In the Belgian Pro League, Nigerian midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi had an impressive outing as he bagged an assist to help Zulte Waregem come from behind to secure a 1–1 draw against OH Leuven.
It was his first assist in 15 games, and it proved decisive, rescuing his team from a potential home defeat.
The 22-year-old was also the most fouled player in the encounter (four times) at the King Power Stadion.
OH Leuven were left frustrated after a dominant performance produced only a 1–1 result.
Thibaud Verlinden gave the hosts an early lead, finishing off a sharp move orchestrated by Łukasz Łakomy. Despite controlling possession and creating clearer chances, they failed to extend their advantage.
Zulte Waregem slowly grew into the match and capitalised on a rare opening when Benoît Nyssen and Nnadi combined neatly to deliver the equaliser midway through the first half.
Leuven pushed relentlessly after the break, firing repeated efforts on goal, but their pressure lacked precision.
In the end, Zulte Waregem’s resilience earned them a hard-fought point on the night.
