Our Position on NPFL table is of great concern - Akwa United Captain Laments

Akwa United captain David Philip has admitted that the team’s current position on the NPFL table is a matter of great concern to everyone at the club. Our Position on NPFL table is of great concern - Akwa United Captain Laments

The Promise Keepers have only managed to gather just three points from five matches, and Philip believes that the mid-week tie, which will be their sixth match of the current campaign, is an opportunity for the players to redeem themselves and move the team out of their present position on the log.

David Philip admitted that it is unbelievable that Akwa United are without a win after five matches, adding that their current position on the table does not really reflect the way they have played those games.

Our position on the league table is a matter of great concern to everyone at the club, and we are fully aware that it is up to us to get it right in our next game,” he told the club media.

The stand-in captain claimed that they are determined to prove their worth by recording their first win of the season when they square up against Gombe United on Wednesday at the Eket Stadium, footballrover reports

We know it’s not going to be easy, but we are prepared and ready to give our all and ensure we record victory,” he said.

Speaking further, the captain stressed that the league is very competitive and that Akwa United knows how much a win will boost their confidence and improve their position on the log.

He added that their victory on Wednesday may be the much-needed turnaround to kickstart their season.

In the absence of Jean Efala and Etim Mathew, the team has been captained by David Philip, the 2021 NPFL champion with Akwa United.

This season, the left-back who has played in all five of coach Fatai Osho’s squad’s games has already netted one goal.

Akwa United will be full of confidence going into the game, having enjoyed a superior head-to-head record against Gombe United.

The Promise Keepers have won eight to Gombe United’s three, while three of those encounters ended in draws. The visitors have lost in all their previous seven visits to Akwa Ibom.

The match is slated to kick off at four o’clock in the afternoon, and there will be live updates of the match on all of Akwa United’s social media platforms.
