Sevilla’s new recruit Akor Adams is settling in quickly at his new club, and he’s not doing it alone. With fellow Nigerians Kelechi Iheanacho and Chidera Ejuke by his side, Adams already feels at home.

But beyond their shared nationality, there’s something special about his bond with these two teammates—one he considers a fantastic player and the other like family, Footballrover reports.

What makes their connection so unique? Adams reveals all in an exclusive chat.

“Kelechi Iheanacho is fantastic, Chidera Ejuke feels like family” – Akor Adams

Speaking with Nigerian journalists in a Zoom session organised by Sevilla’s media team, Akor opened up about how his new environment has embraced him and how his fellow Nigerians have played a crucial role in his adaptation.

I think yes, besides the Nigerians, the other guys are very inclusive,” Adams said when asked if Iheanacho and Ejuke have helped him settle in. “This is one of the clubs I’ve been at where there is a lot of inclusion, even when you’re still getting to learn the language.”

On Kelechi Iheanacho, Adams had nothing but praise.

Kelechi is a top guy. The few weeks I was able to spend with him, he’s been really, really good. A good guy and a good player as well—fantastic.”

Meanwhile, his relationship with Chidera Ejuke runs even deeper.

Chidera is like a friend because we already knew each other a little before. We work in the same agency, so there is so much connecting us even outside the pitch. That makes me really comfortable because I have somebody in the locker room who understands me without me even explaining. That goes a long way.”

Despite his strong Nigerian connections, Akor Adams emphasised that the entire Sevilla squad has been welcoming, making his switch from French Ligue 1 to La Liga smoother.

“In general, the group is really, really good,” he concluded.

Iheanacho’s exit leaves Akor without a key ally

However, just as Akor was strengthening his connection with his compatriots, Kelechi made a move away from Sevilla, joining Championship side Middlesbrough.

The 28-year-old forward, who struggled to make an impact in La Liga, has faced similar challenges at his new club, enduring a seven-game run without a goal contribution.

With Chidera still by his side, Akor Adams is seriously working hard to recover fully from injury setback just before their clash with Real Betis on Sunday—a must-win derby away from home.
