Sevilla’s sporting director, Víctor Orta, has publicly thrown his support behind Akor Adams, who continues to battle injury setbacks since joining the La Liga side in the winter transfer window.
The Nigerian forward has featured in just four league matches for Sevilla, with recurring muscle issues stalling his progress, Footballrover reports.
His latest injury ruled him out of the 1-0 defeat to Valencia and could sideline him for the rest of the season.
Akor Adams faces fitness hurdle in La Liga
The 25-year-old former Flying Eagles striker has now suffered two separate muscle injuries during his short spell with the Rojiblancos.
This run of injury setbacks has sparked concern over his physical resilience in a league known for its intensity and physical demands.
Despite the setbacks, Orta offered reassurance at the unveiling of Sevilla’s new head coach, Joaquín Caparrós.
He described Adams’ situation as “unfortunate” and confirmed that the club’s medical team is closely monitoring the root causes of his recurring problems.
“We will study why these injuries occurred, we have a lot of confidence in him,” Orta affirmed.
Super Eagles hopes on hold for Akor Adams
Adams had been included in Nigeria’s provisional squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
However, the latest injury woes meant he didn’t make the final 23-man list.
Still uncapped at senior level, the striker was part of Nigeria’s U20 squad at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.
While his international debut remains on hold, Sevilla remains committed to supporting Akor Adams through this tough stretch.
